Beschrijving:Future climate change and sea level rise will lead to an increased risk of flooding and the need for improved flood defences. The FRaME project (INTERREG IIIB) works to develop new, innovative and sustainable flood defence strategies for the North Sea Estuaries. It focuses on changing land uses in estuaries and developing Flood Control Areas, which reduce the risk of flooding in a sustainable fashion, while at the same time creating
environmental, social and economic benefits. This will be the theme of the international conference in
Antwerp’s Astrid Plaza Hotel on February 14 and 15, 2007.
We will present you
- 5 ways to manage flood risk: our process of preparing, implementing and communicating sustainable flo od risk management in estuaries, our lessons learned, our Best Practice website, the FRaME results
- The opportunity to share our findings: to share knowledge and experiences and to discuss the results of the FRaME project with representatives of several Flood Risk Management projects, key policy-makers and stakeholders
- An interactive debate on climate change, policies and projects, to compare and link different approaches and results and to identify future priorities.
Objectives of the conference:
- To inform policy makers, spatial planners en stakeholders in the North Sea Region’s Estuaries of experience gained from developing the demonstration sites.
- To communicate findings and best practices on different aspects of development; Sustainable New Land Use, Communications, Nature and Agriculture in Estuaries
- To show the results of demonstration projects (UK: Alkborough Flats, Belgium: IJzer, Kruibeke-Bazel-Rupelmonde, and the Netherlands: Flakkee and Zuiderklip)
- To present the Best Practice Manual (BPM) web site containing lessons learned and experience gained from developing the 5 demonstration sites
- To encourage co-operation between European parties involved in Flood Risk Management in Estuaries and alternative land use in Flood Control Areas
