Abstract
    The 3 most important river systems of Iran with the exception of outer Osten were studied on 3 collecting expeditions so that a rough view of the occurrence of freshwater crabs and their distribution can now be given. In Iran there are 2 different families of freshwater crab (Potamidae and Gecarcinucidae) which have probably evolved independently from marine ancestors.
