This paper presents the general health state of four molluscs species from Mamaäa Bay determined during the summer season 1995: Mytilus galloprovincialis Lamarck, Mya arenaria Linnaeus, Corbula mediterranea maeotica Milaschevich, Cerastoderma edule lamarckii (Reeve). The bacteriological contamination was higher in molluscs from the shore zone, compared to those from offshore waters. The presence of the potential pathogens Aeromonas and Vibrio in the mollusc Mya arenaria reached a maximum level of 15,000 to 20,000 germs/g tissue. The mussel was affected by seven parasites; the most important were the protozoa: Ancistruma mytili, Kidderia mytili, Haplosporidium spp, The psamobiont molluscs were less parasited by these three species of protozoa and occasionally by worms: Proctoeces maculatus and Nematoda spp. |
