Abstract
    The paper deals with the intensity of infestation and tunnelling rate of Xilophaga dorsalis on 32 timber species exposed in Trondheimsfjorden for 13.5 months during 1977-78. X. dorsalis was observed on all wood species. However, on timber like vanah, bibolo, irul, merbau, aniegre, Indian teak, bijasal, wenge and abachi, most of the borers did not succeed beyond making very shallow pits. Density of timber alone was not a contributing factor to its natural resistance. Indian teak was more resistant than Malaysian teak, and American red-oak more resistant than Jugoslavian red-oak. Depth of exposure and intensity of foulers on panels influenced the destruction by X. dorsalis.
