| Abstract |
• Variation of length Short vessels overtaking long ones and long vessels overtaking short ones show force developments which are far from harmonic oscillations. • Variation of speed Changing the velocity of the own and the target ship from +Vmax through zero to –Vmax covers all situations between of overtaking and encountering manoeuvres and can also not be modelled easily by sine or cosine functions. A pragmatic way of describing the characteristic curves of the forces and moments for these special cases is introduced. This method is complemented by factorial influence functions with variable exponents, which are using a nonlinear regression analysis of model test results. This so called “Hybrid Regression” is not a single formula any more but an algorithm formulated as a subroutine. For more convenient use a structural framework can be set up with a formula parser and a special input data set in order to compute the interaction forces with a high level of flexibility depending on the source of information. |
