A summarized information on each of the 40 marine mammal species, which inhabit Chilean waters, their distribution, catch, population size, and conservation status. A list of those species, collected into 25 genera, and 8 families, on which records are available for the authors, including the commercial catch of some species. In the same manner, national legislation on cetaceans and their main conservation problems are presented in an abridged form. All data related to each record by species, and the respective credits by observer, are being stored and listed in the Scientific Antaretic Data System (SIDCA) of the Instituto Antártico Chileno (INACH). All data will be available by Internet once Che respective information has been analized and published. |
