| Abstract |
Interstitial fauna of Galapagos: VIII. Trigonostominae (Turbellaria, Typhloplanoida). In the sandy beaches of the Galapagos Islands, 6 species of the subfamily Trigonostominae were found. The species are not allied to each other; they do not show any close phylogenetic relationship to those Trigonostominae being known from other coasts of America, too. The genus Ptychopera den Hartog is enlarged to 9 exactly described species by the new taxon Pt. scutulifer nov. spec. It is the most derived species of the genus by reason of several autapomorphous structures. Cryptostiopera cornuta nov. gen. nov. spec, is a species highly interesting. This new taxon represents the most relative original type within the genera Cryptostiopera-Ceratopera-Messoplana-Proxenetes. Ceratopera paragracilis nov. spec, and C. bifida nov. spec. are closely related to two european species. Without any doubt, C. paragracilis is the sister-species of C. gracilis (v. Graff) and C. bifida the sister-species of C. axi (Riedl). Messoplana falcata (Ax) is devided into the subspecies M. f. falcata (Ax) and M. f. valida nov. subspec. by reason of some small, but constant features. A Trigonostomum-species is identified with T. setigerum O. Schmidt. From the new material, the following findings of zoogeography and ecology result: The genus Proxenetes has a mainly boreal distribution. Ptychopera is almost completely limited to habitats in shallow eulittoral waters. Ceratopera only occurs in warm-temperate marine waters. Messoplana falcata is distributed in warm- and cold-temperate aeras. In the East Atlantic and the Pacific, the taxon is represented by two different interstitial subspecies. Trigonostomum setigerum is a cosmopolitan species. |
