Abstract
    The Corrubedo Tidal inlet is part of a beach barrier complex situated along a mesotidal coast in Galicia, N.W. Spain. The inlet is the only connection of an almost infilled lagoon with the open sea. The sediments are mainly sands with 28% to 59% of biogenic carbonate and minor amounts of clay and organic matter. The area was mapped in detail during several spring and neap-tide cycles, trenches were dug, and lacquer peels were obtained to study vertical facies relationships. Bedform maps and selected peels are shown. The tidal inlet area is exposed during low-water, except for the active channel. The external part is wave-dominated and the internal part tide-dominated but during high-water periods waves affect the whole area. Four characteristic sequences have been distinguished: permanently active channels, channels active only during extreme spring tides, abandoned channels and external tidal inlets. They have a complex internal organization without clear upwards fining or coarsening trends in grain-size. Two sedimentary features are particularly characteristic of the internal area: rhomboidal megaripples and beach lobes whose internal structure is described in detail.
