| Abstract |
Ascarids parasitic in Teleostean fishes from Western Mediterranean sea present in the collections of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle de Paris were studied. Eight species were found : Raphidascaris mediterraneus Lèbre & Petter, 1983, in Aspitrigla obscura and A. cuculus; Hysterothylacium fabri (Rud., 1819), in Uranoscopus scaber; H. aduncum (Rud., 1802) in Alosa fallax, Arnoglossus laterna, A. rueppelli, Atherina boyeri, Boops boops, Diplodus annularis, Lophius piscatorius, Merluccius merluccius, Solea vulgaris, Trisopterus minutus and Zeus faber; H. rigidum (Rud., 1809) in Lophius piscatorius; H. incurvum (Rud., 1819) and H. sp. in Xiphias gladius; H. bifidalatum sp. n. in Epinephelus aeneus and E. guaza; H. arnoglossi sp. n. in Arnoglossus laterna and A. thori. Illustrations are given for each of the Hysterothylacium species and measurement tables for H. fabri and H. aduncum. Two new species are described : H. bifidalatum sp. n. is characterized by labial flanges provided with a posterior lobe, a short intestinal caecum (1/4 to 1/5 of oesophagus length), and a ventricular appendage longer than oesophagus. H. arnoglossi sp. n. is very close to H. aduncum but the intestinal caecum is notably shorter. Hysterothylacium sp. is very close to H. corrugatum, but differs in the greater length of the ventricular appendage (more precise identification would not be made due to the few number of the not well preserved specimens). A key to the species of Hysterothylacium recorded in the Mediterranean sea is proposed. |
