Abstract
A second species of angler-fish, Lophius budegassa Spinola, 1807, is reported from British waters. This species has hitherto been reported only as far north as the Bay of Biscay. This is not thought to be an active extension of the range of this fish but to be due rather to failure to identify it, for specimens (misidentified as L. piscatorius) dating from the last century have been found in the British Museum (Natural History) collection. The distinctive characters of both species are given.
