Abstract

The “Tabular Keys for Identification of the Recent Ctenostomatous Bryozoa” published by the author in 1983 are updated to take into account the new taxa (families, genera and species) described in the meantime, particularly in the genera Alcyonidium and Amathia, using newly introduced systematic characters. Six new species and subspecies of Alcyonidium are described. The current distributions of all Ctenostomes is summarized. Examples of the taxonomic categories within the evolutionary systematics of Alcyonidium are presented. Previous electrophoretic studies and their successive contributions to our understanding of the classification of Alcyonidium are reviewed.
