Abstract
    The locomotor activity of the intertidal crab, Ilyoplax pusilla, was examined under controlled light and tidal cycles using an actograph with infrared photoelectric switches in the laboratory. Crabs collected from the mouth of Kiku-gawa River in Shizuoka prefecture were placed individually into experimental tanks (15x15x27 cm) with artificial mad flat and burrow in a dark room. Under constant conditions of constant light (LL) and continous ebb tide (EE; the flat was continously exposed to air), seven crabs of 23 continued activity rhythms and the activities of 15/23 crabs were dispersed and their activity rhythms disappeared. The activities of last one crab of 23 were greatly suppressed. Under constant dark (DD) with continous ebb tide (EE), 11 crabs of 16 continued activity rhythms and five crabs of 16 greatly suppressed their activity.The endogenous activity of Iloplax pusilla would appear to be circatidal because there were two activity terms a day and the activity terms appeared in the subjective ebb tide phase unde constant conditions.
