Abstract
    The fifth part of the series deals with the Eocypraeidae which have been seen as a subfamily of the Ovulidae in the past (M. SCHILDER & F. A. SCHILDER 1971: 66). But, as already pointed out (FEHSE 2001: 9 ff.) there are several reasons which give evidence that this is not correct. Conchologically they are closer to the Cypraeidae but differ from these by the mid-central situated spire what is clearly recognizable from fossil stone-casts. Moreover the shells of the Eocypraeids are very different to those of the Cypraeids, so that a single Eocypraeid can be easily distinguished out of hundreds of Cowries.
