The original descriptions of the Mediterranean taxa in the order Myopsida d’Orbigny, 1841 are reported and discussed. The correct scientific name, authorship and publication date for these taxa are also established. The seven taxa included in the present work are: family Loliginidae Lesueur, 1821; genus Loligo Lamarck, 1798 and its species Loligo vulgaris Lamarck, 1798 and Loligo forbesii Steenstrup, 1856; genus Alloteuthis Wülker, 1920 and its species Alloteuthis media (Linnaeus, 1758) and Alloteuthis subulata (Lamarck, 1798). The exact reference for the paper containing the names Loligo, L. vulgaris and A. subulata was established. |
