Abstract
    Records of temperature, salinity, turbidity, and zooplankton abundance and composition were gathered at regular intervals from two Hauraki Gulf stations. These two stations were chosen to represent conditions in the outer and inner gulf respectively. Hydrological processes at both stations were those expected from the effect of climatic factors on shallow inshore waters. Surface water temperatures were closely related to air temperatures, and surface salinities were closely related to rainfall. Temperature and salinity gradients were established at the outer gulf station in spring, and these persisted until autumn. In late summer and autumn 1965 a subsurface intrusion of offshore water into the outer gulf resulted from persistent offshore winds. [...]
