Not least, climate change and the associated rise in sea level have put coastal habitats on the agenda of international environmental policy. In Europe, numerous projects for the restoration of coastal salt grasslands have been carried out so far, which are critically reflected here. It seems that near-natural coastal saltgrass land can be restored after only a few years of restoration measures, such as dike deconstruction. The dike deconstruction on the North Sea island Langeoog is presented as a case study. In addition, inland salt habitats and their management are dealt with. |
