Abstract
Measurements of water temperature and salinity were made every 2-4 weeks for 21/2 years on a salt-marsh in the Tyne estuary, East Lothian, Scotland. Temperatures ranged between -2.5 °C in winter and 22.5 °C in summer and salinities ranged between 0.7 o/00  and 34.1 o/00•  The factors influencing these two parameters are considered. The variation in the two parameters is discussed in relation to the published work on the ecology of Sphaeroma rugicuada
