Abstract
    A Landsat TM image, covering central lake Tanganyika (Tanzanian part, was used to test an atmospheric correction and chlorophyll retrieval algorithms. The algorithms are briefly discussed.The resulting image shows two prominent chlorophyll strips crossing the lake. These strips form more or less the prolongation of faults observed both on the field and satellite images. The relation with geology was studied. The result of this investigation was that the chlorophyll strips probably find their origin in heat sources at the bottom of the lake. This confirms the hypothesis that geological faults continue over the bottom of lake Tanganyika.
