Abstract
    During the autumn of 1970, 1,919 gilt heads of the group O+ were tagged in the region of Sete. Recaptures made month by month until Sept 1971 allowed the author to find out the characteristics of their movements. Each spring, the young gilt-heads of a length of 4cm and with an average wt of {approx} 1g, move into the salt-ponds along the Mediterranean coast. In these places they can be caught in large quantities in traps. It is by using these nets and the aforementioned method of tagging, that the author has been able to give an estimation of the population-size of the survival rate, of the biomass and of the production of gilt-heads of the group O+ of the Etang de Thau. Measurements were made from each sample, giving an idea of the growth of the young gilt-head after its trophic migration into the Etang de Thau.
