Abstract
    The larval development of the polychaete P. ciliata (Johnston) has been studied in detail by means of a scanning electron microscope. The metamorphosis has been observed on larvae with 12 to 15 segments; a particular attention was paid to the parapodial growth. The modifications of the ultrastructure of both the cilia and the bristles during the development are described. The morphology of the bristles of larvae with more than 15 segments has been compared with that of the adult ones.
