Abstract
Adults in the phase of scissiparity and stolons at different maturation stages were collected from the Arcachon Bay. A detailed description of the mature stolons was made. The egglaying occurred spontaneously and yielded variable larvae which could be reared until the post-larval stages. The rearing of the juveniles was discontinued as soon as the specific characteristics had been clearly established. The emission of gametes proceeds from stolons of the architomic type without production of a hatching sac. The trochophore stage is pelagic. Provided with a narrow polystic prototroch, the larva soon gets paired eyes and leads a pelagic lecithotropic life. The achaetous and monotroch metatrochophore becomes rapidly benthic (erpochaeta) before the appearance of the first setigerous segment.
