Abstract
A study was carried out on the diet of the cuttlefish Sepia officinalis in the Rance ria (Brittany). The stomach contents of 369 specimens were analysed. Crustaceans and fish, both pelagic and benthic, constitute almost the entire diet. Cannibalism is frequent in natural environment. The diet evolves as a function of size, with mysids and crustaceans being consumed by the smallest specimens (< 2 cm), while the largest specimens feed on brachyurans and fish. Sepia officinalis appears to be one of the major predators on sedimentary substrates as well as a prey of some importance for large fish and some cetaceans.
