Abstract

In this paper we study the contribution of the mussel in raft culture and associated epifauna in the diet ofL. depurator in the Ria de Arosa through stomach content analysis. The diet is composed mainly of the mussel Mytilus edulis (22.1%), crustaceans (35.1%), particularly Pisidia longicornis (14.3%), which is the dominant species of the epifauna, and ophiuroids (9.3%). Spatial and temporal differences are established, as are differences in terms of size of individuals. Crustaceans are predominant in smaller sized individuals, whereas in larger sized animals, molluscs account for the main food source. The influence of mussel culture in the diet ofL. depurator is clearly shown.
