Abstract

Subtidal benthic fauna of Santander Bay (north of Spain) has been studied on the basis of its trophic composition. Distribution and dominance data of trophic levels show high dominance of deposit-feeders throughout the study area. These dominances are due to Crustaceans in the oceanic influenced area and to Polychaetes at the inner part of the bay. Correlations between physico-chemical parameters and stations reveal organic matter, silt and clay contents as discriminant parameters in trophic group distribution.
