Abstract
    The authors deal with the basics of infrared remote sensing of thermal fronts. The NOAA satellites and the AVHRR radiometer are presented as the generation of sea surface thermal characteristics. They present the general features of the circulation in the western and eastern Mediterranean, the monthly analysis of representative images. In the last part climatology of the frontal areas, monthly and statistical maps are presented.
