| Recently, a first, truly detailed record of Eocene deep-water temperature was established (Bohaty & Zachos, 20003). The results are surprising: upon the gradual climatic cooling trend, a series of warmer and colder extreme climate changes were recognized. However, only few speculations on possible underlying mechanisms have been put forward, underscoring the fact that more research is urgently needed in order to understand, for example, the present day global warming. Considering the usefulness of dinocyst studies for paleoclimatic analysis, we propose to analyse several middle Eocene sections from around the world using high-resolution, quatitative dinocysts analysis paired with stable iotope analysis. |
