Abstract |
Wind, currents and waves are applied alternatively to offshore structures. The effects of all these elements are combined in a unique variable amplitude fatigue spectrum. Miner's rule is used in order to assess the fatigue life of the component under this loading system. However it does not consider non-linear effects generally present after applying under or over-loads. Up to date different damage models were developed in order to increase the design efficiency. However none of them can entirely describe the fatigue behaviour under complex loading. This paper has the aim of describing some of the most recognized non-linear damage approaches with focus on the selection of one of them for offshore applications. |
