Abstract |
In their paper, Bellwald et al. (2019) present a frequency curve of mass movements from a total of 22 fjords and 6 lakes in west and mid-Norway. However, the time-series analysis that is used to create this frequency curve is somewhat flawed, as mass-transport deposits (MTDs) receive a weight that is positively correlated to their age uncertainty, instead of an equal weight. Here, I propose an alternative frequency curve in which the weight of each MTD is equal, independent of its age uncertainty. I conclude that this error in the frequency curve does not significantly impact the interpretations made by the authors, but that similar errors may lead to wrong interpretations when such a frequency curve would be used in a quantitative manner. |
