Abstract |
The list has been prepared from a personal database of the Ascidiacea and Sorberacea of the world, held in Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris. The original database includes synonyms as well as subsequent usage of the names in the literature and the geographical distribution of species. The ERMS list represents the state-of-the-art of Ascidiacean systematics and nomenclature, and this may occasionally deviate from common usage; in cases where a commonly accepted name is no longer valid, it appears in the ERMS list as a synonym. The author thanks David Connor for comparing an earlier draft of the European list with the British List and for pointing out a number of inconsistencies and omissions. P. Louzouet checked the list. |
